Sponsored Content Policy
How we handle, label, and distinguish sponsored content from editorial reporting.
Overview
Sponsored content is paid commercial or partner content published in partnership with organizations, companies, and sponsors. Sponsored content is separate from The World Standard's independent editorial reporting and is always clearly labeled to prevent reader confusion.
Clear Labeling and Disclosure
All sponsored content is clearly labeled with one or more of the following terms:
- •Sponsored
- •Partner Content
- •Paid Post
- •Advertisement
Labels are prominently displayed where readers immediately encounter them, preventing any confusion with independent editorial content.
Visual Distinction
Sponsored content is designed to be visually distinct from editorial articles. Sponsored content may use different styling, background colors, borders, or layout to ensure readers can immediately identify commercial material and understand that it differs from editorial reporting.
Preventing Reader Confusion
Sponsored content must never mislead readers into thinking it is independent news reporting. Key distinctions include:
- •Sponsored content is not promoted or featured as editorial news.
- •Sponsored headlines do not mimic editorial headlines.
- •Sponsored content does not appear in our news sections or feeds unless clearly marked and separated.
- •Sponsored bylines clearly indicate the content's commercial nature.
Editorial Independence
Editorial independence is protected at The World Standard:
- •Sponsored content does not influence editorial news coverage or decisions.
- •Sponsors do not receive special editorial treatment, access, or control over coverage.
- •Editorial staff are not involved in creating sponsored content (except where contractually agreed).
- •We may reject critical editorial reporting about sponsors if warranted by news value.
Sponsored Content Standards
Sponsored content must comply with The World Standard's publication standards:
- •Sponsored content must comply with applicable law.
- •Sponsored content must not contain false or misleading claims.
- •Sponsored content must not promote hate speech, harassment, or illegal activity.
- •Sponsored content must meet platform and advertising standards.
